The art work “My brother’s teeth” by Kevin Beasley is a very remarkable piece in which new things stand out to you as you admire it. It draws numerous emotions as one looks at it. The figure is made from carpet padding foam, polyurethane foam, polyurethane rubber, underwear, and human wisdom teeth. Kevin Beasley may have used these materials to convey a deeper meaning. This object holds great purpose to anyone who actually takes the time to examine and understand this piece. To me, this object displays a person who is trapped inside the carpet and polyurethane foam. This meaning symbolizes someone who has tried hard to break free but never succeeded. And their mistakes and failed trials is therefore on display for many to see. The figure will not lose/change meaning depending on where it’s placed. It will change based on how someone chooses to interpret it. I believe that Kevin Beasley is trying to speak to the viewer using this artwork. If I could ask this object three questions they would be, why are you wearing boxers and have teeth at the top? What do the materials that you are made of mean to you? Why are you positioned the way you are?
