Lailatul Aldria is a senior at Bard High School Early College. She immigrated to the US at seven years old and is the eldest child in her family. After moving to America, Lailatul felt very disconnected to her culture, so she started to gain an interest in doing henna (a temporary tattoo made out of natural plant powder) to connect to her South Asian roots. In high school, Lailatul participated in many cultural and community-service projects which continue to inspire her to pursue medicine and serve her underrepresented community. Lailatul is inspired by the small moments in her daily life which she believes are often taken as granted, giving her a reminder to slow down and appreciate the present.
