About the Foundation

The Hill Art Foundation is a public exhibition and education space that presents rotating exhibitions and ongoing arts education programs. Opened in 2019 in a custom-built 7,700-square-foot space in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood, the Foundation is free and open to the public. Exhibitions include works on loan from the Hill Collection, as well as collaborative projects with leading artists, collections, and institutions. The Foundation was founded by J. Tomilson and Janine Hill, collectors and philanthropists based in New York.

The Foundation offers year-round educational programming for New York City high school students through three unique programs: Teen Curators, HAF Educators, and Teen Summer Fellows.

Works from the Hill Collection are frequently lent to leading institutions worldwide. By facilitating institutional loans, this lending program increases public access to artworks that enrich the conversation around art of historical and cultural significance.

The Hill Collection includes the personal art collection of J. Tomilson and Janine Hill, who have avidly collected over the past three decades, as well as works that the Hills have irrevocably dedicated to charitable purposes.

The Hill Collection focuses on in-depth collecting within four major categories: Renaissance and Baroque bronzes, Old Master paintings, Post-War figurative Modern Masters, and emerging Contemporary artists. One of the Hill Collection’s defining features is how it creates dialogue among works of art across diverse periods and mediums. Works from the Hill Collection have been loaned to prominent museums worldwide, including the 2014 exhibition of Renaissance and Baroque Bronzes from the Hill Collection at The Frick Collection, which featured thirty-three Renaissance sculptures and marked the first time that the Frick displayed Post-War artwork in the museum. 

J. Tomilson and Janine Hill are based in New York.
