Ellis is from Brooklyn, NY. He is interested in the intersections between photography, art, architecture, and community. His hobbies are photography, cooking, going to galleries and museums, walking, biking, and being anxious. He enjoys doing these things because they make him feel at peace and most like himself (except for the last one.) Through this program, he hopes to take away a better understanding of the curatorial process and more insight on educational programming. In the future, Ellis wants to explore the implications of art in various sociocultural contexts using the program as an introduction to the community impact of art.
My name is Ellis Shapiro-Barnum, and I am a senior at Bard High School Early College – Manhattan. The subject of my paper is Christopher Wool’s photography, more specifically, a couple of select images from his 2018 series, Yard, photographed in Marfa, Texas. In this series, Wool has resampled a few images from his previous photography book, Westtexaspsychoscultpture, similar to a tactic he employs in his paintings.
