A Conversation with Thomas Crow
Join us for a free program on September 24, 2026 at 6:30 pm at the Hill Art Foundation with art historian Thomas Crow.
The Hill Art Foundation is pleased to host a talk by Thomas Crow on his most recent publication Murder in the Rue Marat. In this book, Crow begins by describing how the painting’s enduring power came to the fore during the countercultural tumult of the 1960s, discussing how his vocation as a scholar arose out of his own encounter with the work. Xin Wang and Thomas Crow will come together for a conversation regarding works in the exhibition, artistic activities near New York’s Times Square in the 80s and 90s and his recent forthcoming contribution in a book on Ai Weiwei.
Doors open at 6pm and the talk will commence at 6:30pm.

Thomas Crow
Thomas Crow teaches the history of art at the Institute of Fine Arts, NYU. He specializes in eighteenth-century Europe and the recent art of Europe and North America. Among his recent books are The Artist in the Counterculture: From Bruce Conner to Mike Kelley and Other Tales from the Edge (2023); The Hidden Mod in Modern Art: London 1957-1969 (2017); and Murder in the Rue Marat: A Case of Art in Revolution (2025). He is a recent Guggenheim Fellow and a contributing editor at Artforum International Magazine.
