Robert Gober (b. 1954, Wallingford, Connecticut) is an American artist currently based in New York. He received a BA in Literature and Fine Arts from Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont. Gober is celebrated for his work in sculpture where he carefully explores and invites the viewer to unpack the psychology behind themes like sexuality, politics, religion, and the past. Often inspired by his own childhood memories, Gober uses universally recognizable domestic objects, which he recreates by hand and often links together in room-sized installations, to incite a deeply contemplative dialogue with the viewer.

Gober’s work has been presented at the 2001 Venice Biennale; The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; the Serpentine Gallery, London; the Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel; Schaulager, Basel; The Museum of Modern Art, New York; among other venues.
